Gautam is a fourth-year medical student at UC San Diego School of Medicine.

During medical school, he completed a Fulbright grant in Brazil, at the Universidade Federal de Uberlândia. His research interests include global health, and reduction of prevalent non-communicable diseases by diet, exercise, and lifestyle modification.

Gautam has published several peer-reviewed articles and has presented his research at multiple local and national meetings, including an award-winning oral presentation at St. Jude's National Symposium for Undergraduate Research in Memphis, TN.

In his free time, Gautam enjoys cycling, hiking, and playing a host of musical instruments. He is an Eagle Scout and a long-active member of the UC San Diego Ultimate Frisbee Team.
