Professor Gottfried Lechner is Research Professor at UniSA STEM. His research is on wireless communications with a focus on satellite communications and free space optical communications.
Prof Lechner completed his Dipl.-Ing. and Dr.techn. degrees from Vienna University of Technology, Austria, in 2003 and 2007, respectively. He worked as a software developer from 1999 to 2002 before joining the Telecommunications Research Centre Vienna in 2002 as a Researcher in the area of Signal and Information Processing. In this role he collaborated extensively with numerous European research organisations and industry partners.
In 2008, he joined the University of South Australia as a Research Fellow in the area of broadband wireless communications. From 2015 to 2019, he was the Centre Director of the Insitute for Telecommunications Research and from 2019 to 2021, he served as a Research Program Leader "Advanced Communications" in the SmartSat Cooperative Research Centre.
Prof Lechner has published more than 90 research journal articles, conference papers and technical reports. He is a regular reviewer for a number of top academic journals in the area of telecommunications, a reviewer for the Australian Research Council and a technical program committee member for a number of international conferences.
