Jacques Godfroid

Professor of Microbiology, University of Tromsø

After my DVM, I got a MSc in molecular biology (ULB) and a PhD in Veterinary Sciences (UNamur).
I worked 4 years at a lecturer at the Veterinary School in Dakar, Senegal (1986-1990). I came back to Belgium and worked 14 years at the Veterinary Institute (now Sciensano) on brucellosis and bovine tuberculosis (1990-2004).
I worked 4 years as a Professor of Microbiology (mainly wildlife diseases), Faculty of Veterinary Science, University of Pretoria, South Africa (2004-2007).
Since 2008 I am a Professor in Microbiology in Tromsø, first at the Norwegian School of Veterinary Sciences and currently at UiT - the Arctic University of Norway, studying brucellosis in marine mammals and fish.
I continue to be actively involved in brucellosis research in Africa (Ethiopia, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, South Africa).
