I am a marine ecologist, involved in many different roles or activities.
My main role this time (2013-2017) is as a Dean at the Faculty of Marine Science and Fisheries, Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas). Before this, I was the Director of Research Centre for Marine, Coast, and Small Island at Unhas (2014-2012).
I also served the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (MMAF-Indonesia) from 2007-2011 as the Executive Secretary of COREMAP. I have been involve the establishment and implementation of the Coral Triangle Initiative (CTI) since 2008, which now I am in the member Scientific Advisory Group of Indonesian NCC-CTI.
Since 2009, I also helped the Indonesian Government as a member of National Commission of Fisheries Stock Assessment. The other important role that I have been doing is the Chairman of South Sulawesi Sea Partnership Consortium (2004-2007 & 2014-2018).
In the scientific communities, I am now the Secretary General of Indonesian Coral Reef Society and member of several other societies.
My most current role/task is the chairman of Study Committee for Indonesian Science Agenda 2045. Given my roles and experiences, my research area of interests have been expanded from coral reef biology to marine ecology and coastal-marine management.
