James joined the Australian Centre for Child Protection as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in 2014 shortly after receiving his PhD. Funded by Parkerville Children and Youth Care, the position focuses on research into multi-agency approaches to addressing child sexual abuse. James' doctoral thesis dealt with the challenges of conducting program evaluation that has credibility and relevance to human service practitioners. His previous research work has primarily focused on public management in the criminal justice system and quality teaching and learning in the higher education sector.
