I'm an adjunct professor of political science at Colorado State University and retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel and associate professor at the U.S. Air Force Academy. I research cyber-mediated trust, emergent political processes in game worlds, and the politics of science fiction and fantasy literature.
I've published in the Journal of Political Science Education, Around the Table, Ludogogy, War on the Rocks, and Small Wars Journal. My most recent work was an immersive-ethnographic study of power and norm dynamics in two Denver-area Vampire: The Masquerade live action roleplaying groups, published in The Politics of Horror (Picariello 2020). I'm also an organizational wargaming consultant under the name Liminal Operations and a content creator for Evil Beagle Games.
I was "awarded" the military nickname Pigeon in 1997 for keeping pet pigeons, including one bird I've had since 1996!
