Dr. Jennifer J. Heisz is an Associate Professor in Kinesiology and Associate Director (Seniors) of the Physical Activity Centre of Excellence at McMaster University. She received her Ph.D. in Cognitive Neuroscience (McMaster) and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Brain Health and Aging at the Rotman Research Institute at Baycrest Hospital (Toronto). Dr. Heisz directs the NeuroFit Lab (www.neurofitlab.com), which has attracted nearly $1 million to support her research program on the effects of exercise for brain health (33 publications including a book chapter for an American Psychological Association Textbook on Exercise Psychology; 756 total citations; h-index=17; i10 index=21). Every year, Dr. Heisz is invited to speak at national (Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology 2015, 2018; Canadian Institutes for Health Research Summer Program on Aging 2017) and international (International Neuropsychological Society 2019; American College of Sports Medicine 2018; North American Society for Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity 2016; National Academy of Kinesiology 2015) scientific conferences. Her research on exercise and brain health receives widespread coverage via national (CBC, Maclean's, CTV) and international (New York Times, NBC, BBC, CNN, CBS News, The Huffington Post, National Geographic) media outlets. Recent honors include receiving the Early Researcher Award from the Government of Ontario and the Petro-Canada Young Innovator Award.
