Waterloo Chair in Social and Political Philosophy of Language, University of Waterloo

I have recently moved to Canada from the UK, where I was Professor of Philosophy at the University of Sheffield. (I still am, part-time.) I was Head of Department there 2012-2016, and Director of the Society for Women in Philosophy UK 2009-2019. In 2011 I received the US Society for Women in Philosophy's Distinguished Woman in Philosophy Award. I currently hold the Waterloo Chair in Social and Political Philosophy of Language, and I remain an Honorary Professor at the University of Sheffield. I have published 5 books with Oxford University Press, on feminism, philosophy of language, deception, and implicit bias. My current research is on manipulative political speech, with a particular focus on racist, sexist, and deceptive speech. I hold both British and American citizenship.
