I am a trained physical geographer and ecosystem scientist focussing on soils. I particularly focus on the responses on soil processes to the presence of large herbivores. Hence I am currently working across a large range of rewilding experiments in different areas of the world. I primarily asses carbon feedbacks to asses climate mitigation potentials. This is timely because of the high demand for preserving and restoring biodiversity, not least through reintroduction of large wild animals, but we do not fully understand the ecosystem consequences and climate feedbacks. As long as this remains unresolved, we risk making undesirable climate change management decisions in the attempt to increase biodiversity.
