Professor Joanne Aitken ScM, PhD

Joanne Aitken is a cancer epidemiologist with over 25 years’ experience in research and public health. She is Head of Research at Cancer Council Queensland, Director of the Queensland Cancer Registry, Director of the Australian Paediatric Cancer Registry and Professor in the Menzies Health Institute Queensland. She sits on state (cancer service quality and safety), national (cancer registration, cancer in adolescents and young adults), and international (paediatric cancer data) advisory groups and is the elected regional representative for Oceania on the Executive Board of the International Association of Cancer Registries. She has over 200 publications and a career total of over 8,400 citations. Joanne was one of three invited members of the Scientific Investigation Panel for a well-publicised breast cancer cluster at the ABC broadcasting offices in Brisbane that led ultimately to the relocation of the ABC in Brisbane.
