Lecturer in Interprofessional Studies, Swansea University

Julia Parkhouse was born in Swansea and initially trained as an Enrolled Nurse (Mental Health). Julia was only qualified for 10 months before being selected as one of the first two students in the old West Glamorgan school of Nursing to undertake a conversion course in order to become a Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN), qualifying in 1999. She has achieved steady career progression to Ward Manager at a local Psychiatric Hospital working in adult acute care. This position led to Julia developing an interest in the law. She took a three year career break to undertake a law degree. She completed the LLB Hons at what is now Swansea Metropolitan University achieving a 1st.

Julia at this stage, decided to pursue a career in the law going on to study LPC at Cardiff University. She completed a training contract to become a solicitor at a local law firm, steady progression meant Julia become a senior lawyer in Child Care Legal in the City and County of Swansea. Julia maintained her nursing registration throughout.

She has now joined the department of Interprofessional Studies as a lecturer both in Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes. Julia believes that this lecturer post is an ideal combination of both Law and Nursing.
