Associate Professor Vered publishes and teaches in Television & Media Studies and Kids' Media Cultures. With colleague Sal Humphreys, Karen recently co-edited an issue of Television and New Media (15:1) and an issue of Continuum (28:2) (2014). Both journals present papers arising from the 2011 Console-ing Passions conference hosted in Adelaide and co-convened with Jackie Cook. Karen is well-known for her qualitative work on children's media use and her book, Children and Media Outside the Home (Palgrave, 2008), explores what primary school children do with media in after-school care. Joining Flinders in 1999, she earned her PhD at University of Southern California where she was a researcher for EC2, the former business and technology incubator of the Annenberg Center, and programmed the prestigious White House Summit on Internet Content for Children and Teens. She began her career as a television news photographer and video editor.
