Katherine Sievert

Research Fellow in Food Systems, Deakin University

Kate Sievert is a Research Fellow with the Global Centre for Preventive Health and Nutrition (GLOBE), Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia. She received her PhD from the School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences at Deakin University, investigating the political economy of red and processed meat reduction globally for healthy and sustainable food systems. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts (Philosophy) and a Master of Public Health from Monash University.

Kate has worked in research areas including understanding the politics and political economy of the global food system and examining the role of power and influence in policymaking in domains such as ultra-processed foods and infant formula in Australia and on a global level. She is also a co-founder of the advocacy organisation, Healthy Food Systems Australia. Kate has worked in policy writing, including developing and drafting position statements, policy briefs and technical papers for the World Health Organization in Geneva and the Public Health Association of Australia.
