Katherine Steele

Senior Lecturer in Sustainable Crop Production, Bangor University

Dr Katherine Steele is a senior lecturer researching sustainable crop improvement to combat disease, drought and other stresses and deliver better nutritional value.

She studied biology and genetics and did post-doctoral work targeting international development. She has experience in farmer participatory research and technology transfer projects in India, Nepal, Uganda, Senegal and UK. Recent projects identified and tested new DNA markers for rice researchers.

Her work with Defra and the UK Food Standards agency has contributed to protocols for testing the authenticity of Basmati rice.

Katherine was Director of Impact for Bangor University's College of Environmental Sciences and Engineering, leading their submission of Impact Case Studies to REF 2021.
