Professor, Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport and Recreation, University of Alberta

Dr. Kerry Mummery is a professor in the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation having recently completed an 11-year appointment as Dean of the Faculty.

Prior to his appointment to the deanship at the University of Alberta, Dr. Mummery spent 14 years in Australia, most recently as professor and acting Pro-Vice Chancellor and Executive Dean of the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Health at Central Queensland University in Rockhampton.

A Fellow of the Australian Sports Medicine Federation, and an expert voice for Sport Medicine Australia, Dr. Mummery has authored or co-authored over 200 journal publications and presentations to scientific audiences around the world; he is a leading architect of Australia’s highly-successful 10,000 Steps program, designed to promote physical activity – and adopted with enthusiasm across the country. In Canada, he was the lead in the development of the UWalk program aimed at promoting health-related physical activity to Albertans.

In addition to his scholarly work, Dr. Mummery is a board member with ParticipACTION, Canada's voice for physical activity and sport participation. In addition, he is a past board member of the Canadian Coaches Association, Swimming Canada, and Sports Medicine Australia. He has been married to his wife Christine for over 41 years and is the proud father of two adult daughters who live in Canberra, Australia and Istanbul, Turkey respectively. In his leisure time, he enjoys a variety of sports and activities as is an avid masters rowing competitor and open water ocean swimmer.
