Senior Lecturer, Sociology, Deakin University

Dr Kiran Pienaar is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology at Deakin University, with expertise in gender, sexuality and health. Her current research program centres on two main areas: 1) gender, sexuality and the body; and 2) the social dimensions of health and illness with a focus on the sociology of pandemics. Kiran's research addresses topical issues, such as the social dimensions of new sex technologies, contemporary sexual cultures, the impact of public policy on diverse communities, and most recently, the uneven effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. She is the author of 'Politics in the Making of HIV/AIDS in South Africa', published by Palgrave Macmillan.
