I am an assistant professor in the Health and Society chair group of Wageningen University & Research. I am a health demographer, and explore how social and economic determinants impact health. I have expertise in three determinants of health: shocks/crises, such as epi/pandemics and financial crises; socio-economic status and other living standards; and social networks. My work is relatively uniquely set in both historical and contemporary contexts. My goal is to understand the social determinants, both historical and contemporary, of today’s health inequities. My PhD explored body height as an indicator of living standards in the nineteenth and twentieth century Netherlands.
