Dr. Leonie Herx MD PhD CCFP (PC) FCFP

Leonie Herx is a palliative consultant in Kingston, Ontario, Associate Professor and Division Head of Palliative Medicine at Queen's University, and the Medical Director for Palliative Care at Kingston Health Sciences Centre and Providence Care Hospital. Over the past 14 years, Leonie has been actively involved in growing and building the discipline of palliative care at a national level. She helped co-founded the new Royal College Subspecialty in Palliative Medicine and is now the Chair of the Royal College Specialty Committee for Palliative Medicine. Leonie has been on the board of the Canadian Society for Palliative Care Physicians (CSPCP) for the past 8 years and just completed her two year term as President of CSPCP and is now the Immediate Past-President. Through her work with CSPCP Leonie helped lead a number initiatives including consulting with Health Canada in the development of the new Framework for Palliative Care in Canada, co-developing a CSPCP staffing model for planning palliative care programs and developing a national set of competencies for palliative approach to care for all postgraduate education programs. Leonie is passionate about improving access to high quality palliative care for all Canadians.
