Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Plant Pathology and Co-Director at the Centre of Excellence in Food Security, University of Pretoria

Lise Korsten is a professor at the Department of Plant Sciences, section Plant Pathology in the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences at the University of Pretoria. She is also the Co-Director of the DST-NRF Centre of Excellence Food Security. An expert in food safety and regulatory control, Professor Lise Korsten developed South Africa's biological control agent for fruit and established a research group in sanitary and phytosanitary aspects of international trade. She is a chief editor of Crop protection and chairs the International Society for Plant Pathology Task Force on Global Food Security. Her research focuses on complementary fields of postharvest technology and food safety as related to international trade in fresh produce requirements and includes aspects related to postharvest pathology and food safety in the fresh produce supply chain.
