Louise Horstmanshof

Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Health, Southern Cross University, Southern Cross University

Hi, I am Dr Louise Horstmanshof, a registered Psychologist, educator, researcher, and communicator. I work as a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Health at Southern Cross University
I am passionate about preparing and developing the future Health Workforce, to produce caring, tech savvy competent, confident professionals. I am particularly interested in the wellbeing of older adults, inclusive of PLWD and their carers. Drawing together experts from the area of disability studies, I led the team to develop an asynchronous online course in Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, designed to enable individuals working in the areas of disability to upskill to a postgraduate degree building on their experience rather than relying on their undergraduate qualifications to get access. Internationally, I have developed short online courses for people working with older adults world-wide with Aged Care Technologies® with Prof Ian Philps MD CBE, adviser to WHO on the care of elderly people.
Despite this strong teaching commitment, I have published 39 peer reviewed journal articles, and 2 book chapters (1443 citations). I have conducted funded research projects totalling $1,875,000 from local and national/professional organisations (e.g., Dementia Australia), and State and Federal grants (e.g. New South Wales Cabinet Office). I regularly review on assessment, evaluation, and innovation in higher education also for the journals Aging and Mental Health, Geriatric Psychiatry and Neurology and The Gerontologist.
