Marcus Evans, PhD.

PhD. Candidate, McMaster University

Marcus Evans recently earned a PhD. in the Department of Religious Studies at McMaster University. He is interested in the phenomenology of religion as well as in religion at the intersections of race, culture, and Afro-Asian encounters.

In the Spring of 2023, Marcus was honored as a Sacred Writes fellow (for training in public scholarship) and joined a cohort on Race, Religion, and Social Justice.

Marcus is currently researching and writing on the mythology and meaning of the Wu-Tang Clan. His most recent publication is "Buddhism and Afro-Asian Masculinities in 'The Man with the Iron Fists,'" in Buddhist Masculinities, edited by Megan Bryson and Kevin Buckelew (New York: Columbia University Press, 2023).
