PhD Candidate, Glasgow School for Business and Society, Glasgow Caledonian University

Marcus Nicolson is a current PhD candidate and international research project manager at the Glasgow School for Business and Society at Glasgow Caledonian University. Marcus’ study investigates the lived experiences of young adult migrants in Glasgow, UK, using a narrative enquiry research design which incorporates creative research methods.

In his PhD research Marcus looks at the impact of racism on the everyday lives of young adult migrants in Glasgow. These experiences are contrasted against dominant narratives of Scottish exceptionalism, which often present Scotland as a welcoming and inclusive country.

He holds an MA in Intercultural Encounters from the University of Helsinki. Marcus works as the Project Manager for the Horizon 2020-funded D.Rad project. He has also worked in the same role for the recently completed AMIF-funded VOLPOWER project which investigated the interrelation between volunteering, migration and social inclusion.

Marcus regularly collaborates with international colleagues to produce research on migration, identity, nationalism and racism.
