Mari Rhydwen is currently working in Jakarta as English Editor at the Research Centre for Oceanography, LIPI as part of the Australian Volunteers International program. In her previous lives she has studied linguistics and education (her PhD was on Kriol and language change in the Northern Territory), worked at several Australian Universities including as a lecturer at Murdoch and research-fellow at UWA, managed an Aboriginal Language Centre, was the inaugural Aboriginal Languages Consultant for the NSW Department of Education, and spent several years sailing slowly around the Indian Ocean. She has written books, articles and radio presentations based both on her travels and her research. She is a professional member of the Society of Editors (NSW)
