Marine Cusa holds a PhD from the University of Salford, Manchester where she explored, tested, and promoted methods to combat illegal fishing practices and seafood fraud with an emphasis on molecular tools. She also worked as a research assistant with the SEATRACES project at Liverpool John Moores University on traceability and labeling methods to promote sustainable seafood production. She is now a policy advisor and marine scientist for Oceana Europe, and works with their anti-Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated fishing team.
Before this, Marine worked as a research consultant with a focus on polar marine food-webs & plastic pollution, she obtained her Master’s degree from the University of Tromsø’s Faculty of Biosciences, Fisheries and Economics in 2016 where she explored some of the ecological factors that influenced the diet and feeding strategy of endemic marine fish species. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Zoology from the University of Toronto in 2013.
