Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Business, Sport and Enterprise, Solent University

Mark Turner is senior lecturer in sport sociology and course leader for BA (Hons) Sport Studies and Business. He is also a member of the Southampton Solent Centre for Health, Exercise and Sport Science (CHESS) research cluster.

Mark was awarded his BSc Sport Studies from the University of Lancaster and his MA Sport, Culture and Society from the University of Brighton. Additionally, Mark holds the Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (PGCTLHE). He is also a fully qualified FA level 1 coach.

Mark’s main teaching interests are located in the areas of sport sociology and cultural studies. He is unit leader for globalisation and sport, and teaches specifically on the following areas: sociology of sport, research methods for sport, football and society, sociology of football, sport and society. He also teaches on the MA Sport and Development programme.

Mark is a former youth player for Wigan Athletic and was a member of their centre of excellence before being offered a full time YTS in 1997. Mark is also a season ticket holder for Manchester City Football Club. As such, his research and teaching are very much underpinned by knowledge and experience of the game both as a player and spectator.
