Martin H. Plawecki

Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, Indiana University

My research background is focused on alcohol research and spans my training in both psychiatry and engineering. For over a decade, I have contributed to both scientific and technical development of the Computer Assisted Alcohol Infusion System (CAIS) which, through the use of physiologically based pharmacokinetic modeling of the distribution and elimination of alcohol, allows for both alcohol self-administration and breath alcohol concentration clamping type techniques. I collaborate with and help support investigators using intravenous administration techniques in multiple laboratories at Indiana University School of Medicine, the affiliated IUPUI campus, and across the country. I am an investigator in the Indiana Alcohol Research Center and most recently have been developing progressive ratio and other operant-based intravenous alcohol administration techniques to gauge motivation for specific rewards.
