Senior Lecturer in Criminology, Deakin University

Mary Iliadis’ research adopts a socio-legal framework to examine, critique and impact the rights and treatment of victims of sexual violence in criminal justice systems. Informed by international and comparative contexts, Mary’s research examines the rights and protections afforded to victims of gender-based violence in policy and practice in the United Kingdom, Ireland and Australia, and explores how access to justice is negotiated for crime victims. Mary’s recent work focuses on mechanisms of victim participation and representation in criminal trials. More broadly, Mary researches prosecutorial discretion in response to gendered and family violence.
