Matthew White obtained his LL.B and PhD from Sheffield Hallam University.

His research interests include human rights, privacy, EU law, state surveillance and its legality.

He has written on aspects of EU, human rights and UK law for the Journal of Information Rights, Policy and Practice, European Human Rights Law Review, Young Human Rights Law Review, European Data Protection Law Review, Public Law and Legal Studies (forthcoming). He has also written on the same topic for EU Law Analysis. He has also submitted evidence (which has been referenced) to the Joint Committee on Human Rights. Additionally, he is in the process of co-authoring a chapter on privacy and autonomous vehicles. Similarly, he is in the process of writing a book on communications data retention (which is based upon his PhD.
