Michael H. Esposito

Postdoctoral Fellow, University of Michigan

Michael Esposito is a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Michigan's Institute for Social Research. Through empirical studies that carefully utilize modern statistical tools, his research attempts to push our understanding of how race—and by extension, racial disparities—feature(s) in population health. Recent work of his: (1) explicates how racial disparities in health outcomes are generated, rather than just quantifying the size of said inequalities; (2) connects larger structural features that are related to race (e.g., mass incarceration; residential segregation) to health outcomes and disparities; and (3) examines how other locational features that organize US society—e.g., gender; childhood socioeconomic status; skin-tone—intersect with race to stratify individuals.
