Research scientist, CSIRO

Dr Baker has a background in comparative immunology focusing on wildlife species including bats and marsupials.

She undertook postdoctoral training at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque where she worked on marsupial immunogenetics to understand the evolution of the mammalian immune system. Her current research focuses on antiviral immunity in bats which are the reservoir for a variety of viruses that are highly pathogenic in other species but rarely cause clinical signs of disease in bats.
