Michelle DiBenedetto

Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering, University of Washington

Michelle's research lies at the intersection of environmental fluid mechanics and particle-laden flows. A large part of her work is motivated by understanding microplastics pollution in the ocean and problems in biological fluid mechanics. She primarily uses laboratory experiments and mathematical modelling in her research.

Michelle received her BS in environmental engineering from Cornell University in 2014 and a PhD in civil & environmental engineering from Stanford University in 2019. After completing a postdoctoral position at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, she joined the faculty of mechanical engineering at University of Washington in 2020.
