Dr Miguel Pedrono has been a researcher in Conservation Biology and project coordinator at CIRAD. He is particularly interested in how to bridge the gap between academia and on-the-ground practice in the domain of conservation biology to improve conservation effectiveness. His work has taken him to many exotic locations, including Madagascar, Vietnam, India, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Chad, Cameroon, Central African Republic and Australia, where he has obtained first-hand experience in endangered species conservation. The realization that a lineage of the Madagascan megafauna has survived to this day and the enormous implications of this find, has sparked a shilft in his career, leading him to take a sabbatical from his position as a researcher at CIRAD to devote himself entirely to the reintroduction of this species. Reintroducing giant tortoises in Madagascar is the highlight of Miguel's career.
