Milly Williamson

Senior Lecturer in Film and Television Studies, Brunel University London

Milly Williamson is the programme convenor for MA Media and Public Relations. She is an executive member of the Media Communications and Cultural Studies Association (MeCCSA) and chairs MeCCSA’s Women’s Network.

Milly conducts research across three different areas: Gothic, Horror and Fan Culture; Celebrity Culture; and Race in the Media. These areas of research are connected thematically by an interest in the mediated construction and promulgation of normative and marginalised identities. She is interested in the role that media play in how we construct our sense of self and how we are constructed in the eyes of others. One of the main themes in my research is the continuation of social inequality and the connection between media representations and social disconnection. She is also interested in how texts and representations offer alternative images of identity and issues of media consumption.
