Current position : Since March 2005 - Head of Immunology Unit Medical Microbiology National Health Laboratory Services (NHLS) Tygerberg, Specialist Rheumatologist, Senior Lecturer in Paediatrics and Child Health, Stellenbosch University
Certified Paediatric Rheumatologist. Initiator of the service and since 2005 consultant in charge of paediatric clinical immunology and rheumatology services at Tygerberg Hospital. Founder member and past chairperson of the African Society for Immunodeficiencies (ASID), current portfolio board member for registries. Board Member of the South African Immunology Society (SAIS), Education portfolio. Member of the Allergy and Clinical Immunology Society of South Africa (ALLSA), chairperson of the Primary Immunodeficiency Working Group. Member of the South African Rheumatology Society (SARAA). Medical Advisor for IPOPI (International Patient Organization for Immunodeficiencies) and PiNSA (Primary Immunodeficiency Network SA). Co-Founder of the NGO and chairperson of HOPE Cape Town Association.
HPCSA accredited convener of the Paediatric Rheumatology sub specialist training program and the Immunology Biological Intern Scientist training Program at Stellenbosch University. Research activities and publications range from prevention of neonatal sepsis, descriptions of immune deficit /dysregulations, immune responses in HIV exposed neonates to molecular diagnostic investigation and data collection for the South African Registry of Primary Immune deficits. Publications relate to these fields of interest and Supervision of students is related to the above research fields including MSCs, BSc Hons students,Mmed Students and co-supervision of PhDs.
