I write about and teach late twentieth- and twenty-first century film aesthetics and the history of film industries, with a particular focus on British cinema, Hollywood cinema, and the relationship between globalization and film. I am especially interested at present in questions around acting in British film, and the representation of sport on screen. I have published recently on European football in cinema in the journal Sport and Society, as well as writing on the British sports film in my recent book Cinema and Brexit: The Politics of Popular English Film (2021).
