Nelene Koen is a registered dietitian and works as a senior lecturer in the Division of Human Nutrition, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Stellenbosch University. She obtained her B.Sc Dietetics, Master of Nutrition and PhD in Nutritional Sciences degrees from Stellenbosch University. The title of her PhD research is: The influence of nutrition labelling and logos on food purchasing behaviour in the City of Cape Town, Western Cape Province, South Africa.
She coordinates and teaches various undergraduate modules, is actively involved in research and provides post-graduate study supervision to Master of Nutrition students. She has published several articles in accredited peer-reviewed journals.
Her main research interests falls within the public health nutrition field, specifically population-wide interventions to prevent and manage NCDs, including nutrition labeling, salt reduction strategies and sugar taxation.
Nelene is married and mother of two boys. They in Cape Town.
