Principal investigator, Kenya Medical Research Institute

Dr. Nelly R. Mugo is an obstetrician, gynecologist and a principal research scientist at the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), Nairobi.
She attained her medical training at the University of Nairobi and earned her MPH with a major in epidemiology tract from University of Washington in 2000. She has spent the last 16 years in clinical research with a focus in HIV prevention and reproductive health research.

Presently, she collaborates with the University of Washington, International Clinical Research Center (ICRC); department of global health in conduct of HIV-1 prevention clinical research and she is the principal investigator for Partners in Health Research Development (PHRD) and the Partners PrEP Demonstration project, Thika site.

Dr.Mugo heads the Sexual Reproductive Adolescent and Child Health Program, (SRACH-RP) in KEMRI. She is also an honorary lecturer at the University of Nairobi and senior specialist at the Kenyatta National Referral Hospital department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

She is an author and has so far done over 65 peer review journal publications.
