Emeritus Professor of Classical Studies, Western University

Nigel B. Crowther is Professor Emeritus and former Director of the International Centre for Olympic Studies at Western University, London, Canada. He is also a Supervising Professor, International Olympic Academy, Olympia, Greece (2004 to present) where the above photo was taken.

In addition he is a Visiting Professor in the Master's Program at the University of the Peloponnese, Greece (2015 to present). He has published widely in numerous scholarly journals on sports in the ancient world but is best known as the author of "Sport in Ancient Times," Praeger, Westport, 2010, and "Athletika. Studies on the Olympic Games and Greek Athletics," Weidmann, Hildesheim, 2004).

Nigel Crowther is a frequent contributor to television, including an award-winning 2004 documentary, "Let the Games Begin," which screened in Canada, USA, Britain, France, Italy, Germany, Japan, Austria, and elsewhere. He is also regularly interviewed on issues relating to the ancient and modern Olympic Games for radio, including the BBC, CBC, NPR, Sirius XM, and Radio China, and has contributed to newspapers and journals in Canada and the USA, notably the Toronto Globe and Mail, Chicago Sun-Times, New York Times, Huffington Post, New Republic, Associated Press, and Wall Street Week. He has lectured widely around the world, including Canada, Britain, USA, Austria, Greece, the Middle East (Doha), Hong Kong, and Beijing.

He is a passionate sports fan, especially of the Olympics and soccer, and is a former weight-lifting champion.
