Njabulo S. Ndebele is former Vice-Chancellor and Principal and Emeritus Professor at the University of Cape Town; Chancellor of the University of Johannesburg, Fellow of the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study, and chairs the Nelson Mandela, Mandela Rhodes, and Allan Gray Orbis foundations. A writer of published fiction and critical essays, he writes on a range of contemporary public issues that challenge South Africa as a fledgling constitutional democracy.
