Nuttawat is a professor in Finance and the Signature Platforms of Research Excellence (SPRE) finance discipline leader of Massey Business School. He is a chair of research development committee for School of Economics and Finance at Albany and a director of the CFA program partnership.
His research involves the area of investment, asset allocation, trading strategy, commodity, liquidity and financial markets. He published the research in many international finance journals including Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Financial Markets, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Empirical Finance, Journal of International Money and Finance among others. He did commissioned researches for New Zealand Stock Exchange and Pacific Steel Group.
