Ozlem Demirkol Tonnesen

PhD Candidate in digital culture and politics, University of Southampton

I am a PhD candidate at University of Southampton where I explore expressive political participation on Twitter during the 2018 Turkish Presidential Elections. My research focuses on how Turkish Twitter microcelebrities are narrating political events and lending visibility to oppositional viewpoints in a setting where criticism of the government is penalised. I have completed several research assistantships in the UK and Norway focusing on digital cultures, journalism and storytelling. I currently serve as the PGR representative for the Association of Internet Researchers.
