I am currently doing a PhD in Chinese Studies and Political Communication at the University of Glasgow. My research is titled Legitimating authoritarian rule: How the Chinese Communist Party controls information to enhance its legitimacy. My research interests include propaganda and censorship in China, Chinese media, social media in China and authoritarian legitimation.
I am a former political journalist, latterly working as the Deputy Editor of the BBC’s flagship weekly political programme. I have also also been a Special Adviser at HM Treasury, working for Kenneth Clarke.
