Since my PhD in which I did research on hyrax, my focus has been on phylogenetics and phylogeography of southern African vertebrates. Most of my projects also contribute within the context of conservation genetics/biology. I am interested in discovering patterns of biodiversity at and below the species level and the underlying processes that have generated this diversity. I am furthermore passionate about human capacity development; I enjoy lecturing undergraduate students in various aspects of Genetics and have to date been the supervisor or co-supervisor of 31 honours, 25 masters and 20 PhDs students.
