I am a systems modeller working in global food systems, bioenergy, climate change impacts and mitigation. I led the agriculture and land use chapters for the IPCC mitigation volume for the last two assessment reports. I am/was: Research Fellow of the Royal Society - 2008-2013; Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology (FRSB elected: 2008); Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (FRSE - elected: 2009). I currently act as Science Director of ClimateXChange, Scotland’s Climate Change Centre of Expertise, Director-Food Systems of the Scottish Food Security Alliance – Crops, and Theme Leader of cross-University theme on Environment & Food Security.
