Registrar and Academic Director (Education), University of Sydney

Peter McCallum is Registrar and Academic Director (Education) at the University of Sydney and an Associate Professor in Musicology, at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. He was Chair of the Academic Board of the University of Sydney 2010-2015 and since then has worked in the Education portfolio on education strategy. His research areas include the music of the Classical Era, the music of Boulez and Australian music criticism. His PhD analysedBeethoven’s sketches for the last string quartets and he is working on an edition of Beethoven’s final sketchbook the Kullak sketchbook. In 2015 he published a history of the Conservatorium to celebrate its first hundred years: The Centenary of the Con: a history of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, 1915 -2015. He is also chief classical music critic for the Sydney Morning Herald.
