Professor, Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Université Laval

Pierre Ayotte is a professor in the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine at Université Laval, a senior researcher in the Population Health and Optimal Health Practices Axis at the CHU de Québec-Université Laval Research Centre, and is heading the Research Division at the Quebec Toxicology Centre, a reference laboratory in human biomonitoring within the Quebec National Institute of Public Health. Over the past 30 years, he has been involved in numerous studies focusing on the health effects of exposure to heavy metals and persistent organic pollutants in Arctic regions and elsewhere in the world. During the last decade, his research interest has expanded to include the health benefits of selenium in the marine food chain. He is an associate editor of the Canadian Journal of Public Health and a designated expert on the Human Health Assessment Group of the Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Programme (AMAP).
