Rachel Anne Carter

Consultant and PhD Candidate (Law), Deakin University

Rachel Anne Carter has experience as a consultant on catastrophic risk and insurability, managing her own consulting firm.

She has experience working as a university academic, having worked with the School of Law, La Trobe University and the School of Law, Deakin University. She is also a consultant specialising in disaster risk insurance. Rachel currently runs her own consulting firm Carter Consulting.

She is currently in the process of finalizing her PhD for submission in 2013. She holds two industry scholarships with the Bushfire Cooperative Research Centre (Australia) and the International Association for Wildland Fire (US).

Rachel has co-authored a book (Palgrave Macmillan), published in academic journals and presented at conferences both in Australia and internationally. Rachel has presented evidence to the Senate in relation to insurance in Australia. She has also worked with the Australian Strategic Policy Institute in reviewing disaster policy.

After her thesis is completed Rachel hopes to engage in further research, policy analysis or policy implementation work either within an academic institution, government, international organisations, consulting firm or the insurance industry ideally focusing on catastrophic risk (natural and man made risks) and insurance.
