Postdoctoral Research Associate, University of Glasgow

Dr Rachel Chin is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Glasgow, working on the AHRC-funded project ‘The Weight of the Past in Franco-British Relations’. Her research interests focus on 20th century Franco-British relations, particularly in the context of The Second World War as well as wider episodes of imperial rivalry and imperial violence. She has published research on Franco-British tensions in the Levant in 1945 and the rhetoric of Franco-British alliance in 1940 in The European Review of History and The Journal of Contemporary History respectively. Her assessment on British justifications of the bombardment of the French fleet at Mers el-Kébir (July 1940) was published in the edited collection Rhetorics of Empire: Languages of Colonial Conflict after 1900 (MUP, 2017).
