Rene Bogovic is a Sociology PhD candidate at the University of Toronto, with a background in filmmaking, ethnography and languages.

Rene's current focus is his dissertation based on a 4 year long immersive ethnography in the Western Cape in South Africa, exploring the role of mother tongue and everyday language use in the (re)formation and negotiation of post-apartheid ethno-racial boundaries, with a focus on the multiracial Afrikaans speech community.

Rene's is also a team member of the Refugee Integration in South East Europe (RISEE) research project (risee.eu), conducting interviews with NGOs in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, focusing on the Western Balkan refugee route, including the challenges experienced by refugees and local populations.
