Richard E. Chaisson

Richard E. Chaisson, M.D., is Professor of Medicine, Epidemiology, and International Health and Director of the Johns Hopkins University Center for Tuberculosis Research and Principal Investigator of the Hopkins Center for AIDS Research (CFAR). The Center for Tuberculosis Research is a multidisciplinary research and training center for the study of TB from bench to bedside. The CFAR is a multidisciplinary, university-wide program to promote HIV research, support new investigators, and address the Baltimore HIV epidemic. Dr. Chaisson's research interests focus on tuberculosis and HIV infection, including global epidemiology and control, prevention, clinical trials, and public health interventions. He was principal investigator of the Consortium to Respond Effectively to the AIDS/TB Epidemic (CREATE), an international research consortium funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to assess the impact of novel strategies for controlling HIV-related TB. He is a leader in the Tuberculosis Clinical Trials Consortium and the AIDS Clinical Trials Group's TB Transformative Science Group, and leads a number of trials funded by the CDC, NIH, and Unitaid. He has mentored >40 trainees during his career. He has published over 500 scientific papers and book chapters, and co-edited The Handbook of Tuberculosis with Jacques Grosset.
